𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗜 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀: Honoring Tunisia’s Top AI Pioneers
The Tunisian AI Society (𝗧Λ𝗜𝗦) is proud to announce the winners of the 𝗧𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗜 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀, celebrating the brightest talents shaping the future of artificial intelligence in Tunisia and beyond. This prestigious recognition honors the outstanding achievements of Tunisian professionals, researchers, and pioneers who are making a profound impact on the global AI landscape.

This year’s winners are:

Imed Zitouni: Director of Engineering at Google, where he leads AI and Search initiatives from Bellevue, WA, USA, and Zurich, Switzerland. Since assuming this role in June 2019, Imed has spearheaded research and development efforts in Natural Language Understanding (NLU) and Knowledge Engineering (KE) to enhance Google Search and Assistant. His visionary leadership in advancing AI applications is evident through his innovative work at Google and his active participation in major AI conferences, including serving as the Industry Track Chair for EMNLP 2023.

Islem Rekik : Associate Professor at Imperial College London (I-X Hub), UK, and serves as the Director of the Brain And Signal Research and Analysis (BASIRA) laboratory. Her pioneering research focuses on developing inclusive, affordable, and robust AI models, with a particular emphasis on brain imaging and neuroscience.

Mohamed JMAIEL: Full Professor of Computer Science at the National School of Engineers of Sfax, Tunisia, a position he has held since February 5, 2009. His research focuses on several advanced areas, including software engineering of distributed systems, formal methods in model-driven architecture, self-adaptive and pervasive systems, autonomic middleware, and AI applications.

These awards highlight the global nature of AI research and development, recognizing leaders from industry (USA), academia (UK), and applied research (Tunisia). Their work collectively advances the field of AI across various domains, from search technology to healthcare applications and practical AI solutions.
